Our client is a major internet services company operating one of Japan's largest online marketplaces, serving tens of millions of users. The organization is known for running high-impact campaigns and continuously optimizing performance at scale.

Job Description

  • Lead backend architecture design for large-scale, high-traffic web systems
  • Translate business priorities into high-quality, timely system delivery
  • Own end-to-end development lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, and release
  • Drive technical decisions in complex, high-load environments
  • Lead projects or teams as a senior engineer, ensuring best practices and delivery excellence
  • Optimize backend systems for peak events and large traffic spikes
  • Oversee service monitoring, incident response, and production troubleshooting
  • Implement continuous improvement cycles (hypothesis → validation → analysis → systemization)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance user-facing features
  • Handle operational tasks including investigation and stakeholder inquiries



The Successful Applicant

  • 5+ years of technical leadership in high-load web system architecture and decision-making
  • Proven experience designing scalable, maintainable systems with long-term growth in mind
  • Strong background in Java and Spring Boot (5+ years)
  • Extensive experience with REST API design and development
  • Solid understanding of unit testing (JUnit) and code review practices
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle or MySQL)
  • Familiarity with application servers (Tomcat or WebLogic)
  • Strong command of Linux, Git, and Gradle
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins)
  • Hands-on experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proven experience in production monitoring, incident handling, and reporting
  • Business-level English communication skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with performance, load, and stress testing
  • Familiarity with Redis, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Grafana, Kibana
  • PHP development experience using frameworks (3+ years)
  • Kubernetes environment setup and certifications (CKA/CKAD preferred)
