Our client is a large, well-established digital commerce and fintech ecosystem company operating at global scale. Its payment platform supports transaction-critical services with a strong emphasis on security, reliability, and compliance across multiple business lines.

Job Description

Design & Development

  • Lead basic design for new features and external paymentserviceintegrations (PSP), including:
    • Software architecture and component design
    • Database schema design and data flow decisions
  • Define, maintain, and continuously improve design guidelines and coding standards
  • Build, test, and deploy production-grade Java applications across the full SDLC

Review & Quality Improvement

  • Review system designs pre-implementation to identify structural risks early
  • Conduct code reviews with focus on correctness, maintainability, performance, and security
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback that explains the "why," enabling team learning
  • Turn recurring issues into documented guidelines to prevent repeat defects

Team Enablement

  • Support engineers and team leads by aligning design intent with implementation reality
  • Act as a bridge between senior stakeholders and engineers to reduce friction and increase consistency
  • Raise the overall engineering bar through hands-on guidance, exemplars, and pragmatic standards

The Successful Applicant

  • 8+ years of professional Java development experience
  • Proven delivery of production systems in high-traffic, transaction-critical environments
  • Strong ability to independently lead basic design (architecture, components, DB schema)
  • Solid experience running effective code reviews and enforcing coding standards across teams
  • Ability to ramp up quickly on unfamiliar codebases and assess structure, risks, and refactoring needs

Preferred

  • Experience with payment gateways, financial integrations, or other regulated transaction systems
  • Strong working knowledge of Spring (MVC/Boot), MyBatis, JUnit and/or Mockito
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps tooling (e.g., Jenkins, Git, Gradle)
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Cloud exposure (AWS preferred)
  • Japanese is a plus, but not required
