Our client is a leading Japanese internet services company operating major e‑commerce and digital platforms with a large domestic user base. Their dedicated search technology team supports multiple services, using data and modern engineering practices to continuously improve user search experiences.

Job Description

In this role, you will:

  • Design and optimize search schemas to support various business and product needs
  • Support consultants and internal stakeholders on how to best utilize the search engine
  • Develop and maintain search support systems using Python and related technologies
  • Contribute to tools (e.g., web-based dashboards, internal applications) that make search operations more efficient and higher quality
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and product members to analyse search data and improve search logic
  • Document specifications, design decisions, and operational procedures clearly for internal users

The Successful Applicant

Must-have

  • 2+ years of hands-on software development experience in a professional setting
  • Practical development experience with Python
  • Basic understanding of databases (relational or NoSQL), including schemas and queries
  • Native or fluent Japanese communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Daily conversation level English (目安：TOEIC600程度) for reading documentation and simple communication

Nice-to-have

  • 3+ years' development experience using Python in production environments
  • Experience operating databases including schema design and performance considerations
  • Experience with web application development (e.g., frameworks like Next.js or similar)
  • Interest in search technologies, information retrieval, or large-scale data handling
  • Ability to work collaboratively with non-engineers and explain technical topics in simple terms
