Our client is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll professional to lead the team in Japan. This person will be working closely with the rest of the local HR team and regional Payroll team.

Job Description

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local regulations and company policies.
  • Process payroll transactions, including but not limited to new hires, terminations, salary adjustments, and bonuses.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports to relevant stakeholders on a timely basis.
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other fringe benefits.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and internal stakeholders to enroll employees in benefit programs and resolve inquiries related to benefits.
  • Provide support in various HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Assist in maintaining HR records and databases, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing employee experience and organizational effectiveness.
  • Stay abreast of changes in labor laws and regulations in Japan, ensuring payroll and HR practices remain compliant.
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports and filings related to payroll and benefits as required by local authorities.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong experience in payroll administration and HR functions, preferably in a multinational environment in Japan
  • Proficiency in Japanese (native or JLPT N1 level) and business-level English.
  • Strong knowledge of Japanese labor laws, tax regulations, and social insurance systems.
  • Experience with payroll software and HRIS (Human Resources Information System) platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and cultures.
