About Our Client
The client is a leading manufacturer of medical and surgical products, providing its services to over 100,000 locations worldwide. Their headquarters is in the US and they employ almost 40,000 people globally.
Formulates partnership with the regional or corporate HR group to develop valued added services, solutions, programs and policies for Japanese employees and business.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
Develops contract terms for new hires, promotions and transfers.
Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs.
Participates in evaluation and monitoring of success of training programs. Follows-up to ensure training objectives are met.
Effectively balances business partner responsibility with employee advocacy, and builds a positive employee relations culture and work environment.
Acts as a change agent/leader and culture steward.
Develops and implements plans and actions to improve employee engagement and manager effectiveness, and foster inclusion.
Supports leaders as strategist, coach, facilitator and architect.
Champions and supports Human Resources service delivery processes.
Understands and utilizes technology to efficiently deliver HR systems and help people stay connected to each other.
The Successful Applicant
A minimum of a Bachelors' degree in Human Resources or related discipline is required.
A minimum of 12+ years of directly related generalist experience is required.
Prior supervisory experience preferred
Previous experience working in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device industry is preferred.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of Japanese labour laws and regulations is
Fluency in Japanese & English is required.
Must be able to demonstrate time management, priority management, planning and coordination, multi-tasking skills and attention to details.
Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing competing priorities and fast pace work environment
Ability to work independently with a high level of discretion and confidentiality required.
Strong computer skills and experience with HRIS software is required.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
Strong ability to develop working relationships with others and understanding employee needs.
What's on Offer
This Head of HR role is new headcount to support the rapidly growing organization within Japan. There will be one direct report into this position. English is required because there will be significant communication and opportunity to collaborate on projects across APAC.
